Sometimes by the time you get to your 3rd or 4th look you may be tired and it could show in your photos. It's your choice, however should you commit to a certain number of looks and not complete them, you will be charged a $35 fee for the photographer's time and be able to reschedule the remaining looks for our next available shoot date at no additional charge. ACCESSORIES & PROPS ARE IMPORTANT! HATS, SCARVES, BRACELETS, BELTS, CHAINS, RINGS, BANGLES, PURSES, MAN BAGS, BOOKBAGS, SKATEBOARDS, PETS, UMBRELLAS, BE CREATIVE! ATLEAST 1-2 OF YOUR LOOKS SHOULD INCORPORATE SOME PROPS AND ALL LOOKS SHOULD BE ACCESSORIZED TO SOME DEGREE. THIS IS YOUR PORTFOLIO, INVEST IN THE CREATIVE ELEMENT.
It is imperative that you have new or like new items (no wrinkles, bleach spots, stains, loose threads, etc) and that your clothes be properly fitted. You must also have professional hair and makeup so your portfolio is the best it can be. If you need help with ideas, let us know.
Ladies, If you wear frontals or closures or wigs, you must have natural looking hairlines and professional installations of hair weaving. If you are wearing extensions, the extensions and leave out must be the same texture. It is not our photographer's job to fix clothing wrinkles, bad hairlines, poorly applied makeup, bad hairstyles, etc. These make you look bad and make the agency look bad.
Ladies who typically wear their hair out in the same style need to change styles between looks. You cannot shoot 4 looks with a ponytail, or 4 looks with your hair down your back, or 4 looks with your afro out. Incorporate buns, switch out wigs, part your hair, wear a headband/wrap, high pony, low pony, twists, braids, french braids, curly hair, straightened hair, etc.
Gents, be sure to have a fresh haircut and color job for your shoot. Be sure your eyebrows are groomed as well as your beard.
Ladies and Gents, it's important that you refrain from sugary drinks, alcohol, cigarettes, high sodium meals, etc before your shoot as it shows in your skin. Be sure to drink lots of water the 3 days prior to your shoot and to use a light exfoliant atleast 2 days before on your face. Making sure your skin is cleaned and moisturized daily on a routine atleast a week prior to your shoot will help.
Make sure your nails are well groomed and that any area of your skin that will be exposed is shaved / waxed & moisturized (forearms on men and women and legs on men are the only exception)
KIDS, parent make sure you practice with them at home so that the photographers instructions don't sound foreign to them. " Smile for me!" , " Turn this way!" , " Can you put your arm like this?" , "Can you put your feet like this?" , " Can you jump in the air?" etc. Be sure to do a few practice shoots at home so that are familiar. Be sure they have napped and snacked so that it's less likely for them to be fussy and a better chance for a successful shoot. If for any reason your little one will not shoot or will not work with the photographer, a $35 sitting fee for the photographer's time will apply after 30 minutes with the child and you can reschedule at no additional charge.
Your shoot will take place at the agency Uptown and all shoots are outdoors at nearby locations within walking distance unless otherwise noted. Arrive ontime, not early and not late.
Practice posing in a full length mirror. Have a friend or family member do a mock shoot with you then review the pics to see what angles do and do not work for you. The angles and poses that do work for you....perfect those. Google model posing techniques (photographic movement) for men, women, kids if you need help
Once received, print them and put them in your portfolio book and upload them to your 800casting profile.
Please go to Hobby Lobby and purchase a starter portfolio in the ART JOURNAL section of the store. You can do 8x10, all the way up to small poster size. Then have your images printed and place prints in your book. Regardless of how large you decide for your book to be, you still need 5x7 and 8x10 prints to give away if asked so be sure to keep a few in there. Also print out your resume from 800casting and keep a few copies there as well. Once your comp cards come in, bring all of your cards everywhere as you never know who you may meet that you might want to share one with at a model call or assignment when appropriate. A great way to protect them is to buy a plastic ($1 at Walmart, $3.99 at Target) document protector envelope that buttons or zips.
You must arrive dressed in your first look and be hair and makeup ready for your first shoot.
